The challenge was to design a typeface that captured the essence of three categories of instruments: traditional instruments, repurposed objects, and newly invented instruments. This typeface needed to reflect the experimental nature of Speak Percussion while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic for the exhibition and accompanying publication.
Our team presented various typographic solutions, accompanied by visual prototypes and use-case scenarios. We explored how typography could interact with the instruments’ unique characteristics, ensuring that the design communicated both the history and avant-garde spirit of the ensemble. The final proposal included type specimens, visualizations, and prototypes, along with detailed documentation of our research process and typographic strategies.
In addition to the publication, we created assets for the exhibition, including visualizations of how the typeface could be applied to marketing materials, exhibition signage, and interactive displays, enhancing the audience’s experience of this milestone event for Speak Percussion.
